UK moon-sighting for Ramadan, Eid, and monthly crescents.

This page tracks Wifaqul Ulama UK and HMCC UK moon-sighting announcements for the start of Ramadan, Eid ul Fitr, Eid ul Adha, and the monthly Islamic crescents. Confirmations are posted the evening of the sighting; this page updates automatically from both bodies.

A note on tradition: Wifaqul Ulama UK, HMCC UK, and the Islamic Society of North America each publish independent confirmations. This page reports each without editorialising.

How UK moon-sighting works

The Islamic month begins with the visible sighting of the new crescent moon after sunset. UK bodies accept sightings from a coordinated network in the UK and neighbouring regions, cross-check astronomical possibility, and publish confirmation once the criteria are met. On the 29th of each month, look for a confirmation notice around 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm.

يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْأَهِلَّةِ ۖ قُلْ هِيَ مَوَاقِيتُ لِلنَّاسِ وَالْحَجِّ

“They ask you about the new moons. Say: they are measurements of time for mankind and for the pilgrimage.”

Quran 2:189 · Surah al-Baqarah · translation: Sahih International

Live status

The live status block above pulls the latest confirmed dates from Wifaqul Ulama UK and HMCC UK. Where the two bodies differ, both statements are shown; this is not editorial disagreement, it is a genuine matter of jurisprudence on the acceptable sighting radius.

“Fast when you see the crescent and break your fast when you see it.”

Sahih al-Bukhari · Book of Fasting (Book 30) · Hadith 1900 · narrated by Ibn Umar
