Yesterday’s Lessons, Tomorrow’s Teacher
Hussain
An example of true dignity
When lives were full of injustice
More than a thousand years ago
Just like
Nowadays
We must not stay silent in evil’s face
You must question your morality
So if a man is not your brother in faith
They are your equal in humanity
All men are the same in God’s eyes
But we condemn on black or white
We need Hussain’s guidance
The struggle for truth is hard
The right path can be the loneliest and
Though it’s easy to discard
The oppressor still crushes the poor and weak
We see it every day, every hour, every week but
Social media is the only platform on which we tweet
Share Islam through your manners and it should not be that
We only relate to those who look like us
And isn’t it a shame that
So much of what we see is inhumane
Because of the desire for capital gain
God is closer than our jugular vein
But we forget
We must be the change we wish to see
Our utopia is not a dream
The colours change on the trees outside but
His message will stay evergreen
And see what Hussain’s legacy can teach us
We should all stand for integrity
It is not just left to preachers
To hold oneself accountable so that
Islam’s finest features are
Revealed in true contrast
To learn how to treat our futures
We read backwards into our past
The brightest star in the darkest sky
Our role model
Hussain
